Imagine a swampy forest at the Northern tip
of the Carolinian Forest. In the ca 1850s men came to the Enniskillen
Township area and found oil floating in pools on the
muddy ground surface. The area Natives had been scooping up the
oil for hundreds of years. With nothing but picks and shovels these
men started digging and harvesting this 'black gold'. This website
is presented here for you to understand not only the development
of oil technology but the people that pioneered it. Please enjoy
this look at the Petrolia and Oil Springs area, and even better
come for a visit.

"What an excellent website!
The material is wonderful and the structure
of the site is easy to use. It was nice
to read about old Petrolia and fill in a lot of missing
information."
